AL FAWZ International School adopted the Cambridge curriculum which is based on International standards of achievement in all subject areas, supported by a huge range of co-curricular activities that ensure students have the opportunity to develop fully as individuals.
The AMA Education System’s affiliation to Great Explorations in Mathematics and Science (GEMS), a program of the Lawrence Hall of Science, University of California, in Berkeley, USA enhanced the curriculum offered in Mathematics and Science subjects.
ROBOTICS as part of the curriculum was also made in IT, Mathematics and Science subjects. Theseand among other good things aid the school’s performance. The school also adopts the Omani curriculum as prescribed by the Ministry of Education for private schools offering the subjects Islamic Studies, Arabic Language and Social Studies.
English is the medium of instruction except for Arabic Language and Islamic Studies. International students take French Language as a second language of study. Computer Literacy is also strength of the school. The Arabic Language, French and Computer Literacy are offered in all levels starting from Kindergarten 1.
AL FAWZ International School is a member of AMA Education System. The school is recognized by the Ministry of Education of the Sultanate of Oman.
The Pre-school program (Kindergarten) is the child’s foundation for learning. From here, a child starts to discover the basic things about their environment and the people around them. AL FAWZ helps them reach their maximum learning potential to become well balanced individuals making them physically, emotionally, mentally, and socially competitive in the future.
Language and Literacy
Focus is on the child’s full development in writing, speaking, reading, listening and language comprehensive competencies.
The Arabic Language Program is in accordance with the mandate of Oman Ministry of Education. Islamic Studies and Qur’an recitation are in formal Arabic.
This is about developing number skills through practical activities. Focus is on achievement through practical activities and on understanding and using language in the development of simple mathematical ideas.
The course deals with streaming and development of physical abilities in indoor and outdoor environment.
This is about the development of creative expression and imagination.
Science and Technology
A hands-on approach to learning earth, physical and life science education with emphasis on skills development
Focus is on knowledge and understanding of the world, its people and their ways of life, respect for other cultures and nationalities, development of social skills like manners and ethics, with a combination of geography and Sultanate of Oman / world history.
The computer lessons are based on the topics and themes covered in the textbook prescribed. This is to help the students gain more information in a fun-filled interesting and educational way.
The activities are all planned to help the students gain basic coordination skills. He/she gets familiar with the use of computer which is an essential part of the curriculum from Pre-school to Grade level.
Elementary Curriculum (Grade I – VI)
Elementary School is a diverse learning community that prepares each student for academic,social and personal success by providing a safe, supportive and challenging environment. Students are nurtured and assisted in achieving their highest potential as they grow to become confident, competent and caring individuals.
The English writing process which is taught in a workshop environment with focus on the six traits of writing gives coherence to the overall program. Reading instruction reflects a balanced approach between language and skill-based instruction. Students experience literature through games, storytelling, speaking, listening and other instructional methods.
Arabic language program is in accordance with the mandate of Oman Ministry of Education
Islamic Studies and Qur’an recitation are in formal Arabic.
French language is offered to Arabic and Non-Arabic students.
This subject provides a balance between computation, problem solving and real-life applications. Group based activities which will develop counting skills, number work and measurements are implemented.
Development of social skills like manners and ethics, in combination with Geography and Oman/world history
Arts and Craft
Enhancing artistic sensibilities through painting, printing, modeling and the like in both individual or team sessions. It also develops sophisticated motor skills.
Learning science at this level emphasizes a strong foundation of scientific skills. Students are required to write laboratory reports, interpret their results, participate in scientific debates and make in class-demonstration of experiments. Students develop a keen and deep interest in the cause and effect relationship governing scientific phenomena.
It teaches the general physical outdoor activities using balls, hoops, cycles etc.
– 1st Grade
First graders will learn to log on and off. They will learn the introduction to computers, computer parts, how to use the mouse and printer. They will work online for educational games, letters, numbers and special keys on a keyboard. First graders use a word- processor to write sentences. They will learn to use the mouse in drawing and create a simple card using different programs. They navigate the Internet to a selected destination.
– 2nd Grade
Second graders identify the components of computer, i.e CD-ROM, mouse, software, monitor and printer. They locate and use special keys (i.e. period, comma, caps lock etc.). They get introduced to typing skills and home keys. The second graders use drawing tools to display information. They navigate the Internet to selected destination and use educational games.
Third graders can change fonts and sizes in a word processing document. They use correct finger placement when keyboarding. They search an electronic encyclopedia for specific information. Third graders use a word processor to enter, save text, adding graphics and printing to correct printer. They create tables and signs as individual activity. They graph data with graphing program. They manipulate a graphic. They do a basic Internet search with supervision.
Fourth graders can Add/Delete files. They understand how to use electronic encyclopediasto research a simple topic. They can use the Internet to gather information. They use the proper keyboarding techniques for keying letters. Fourth graders use a word processor to edit and save changes to a document, add an object to a file and edit images. An introduction to networks is also included.
Fifth graders will select, search strategies to obtain information from variety of sources including books, library, computer catalog, CD-ROM, electronic, encyclopedias, atlases and the Internet. They can evaluate electronic information for appropriateness, accuracy and usefulness. They use PowerPoint tocreate multimedia presentation. They also use vector drawing software to complete a seriesof assignment.
Students will learn about search engines and evaluation of website. They will be introduced to MS Excel. Working in groups, the students will create a newsletter. They will use Internet, electronic sources and print materials to research that topic and then create a report. They will learn about working with headlines, text frames, columns and images.
